Through Beatles-esque guitars and a smooth harmony, Sam Owens aka Sam Evian’s new single “IDGAF” is a slow, dreamy burn. With melodic structures much like the style of Owens’s Saddle Creek label mates Big Thief, a steady shaker, and swirling acoustic strum, the single tells the hero narrative of choosing your own path, regardless of obstacles. Recorded to eight-track in upstate New York, you can really hear the band vibing off of each other, a feel that tends to get lost in the computer-centered recording processes of today. “IDGAF” is the second single, following “Health Machine,” from Owens’s sophomore record You, Forever, out June 1. Catch him on tour in June with Buck Meek and Katie Von Schleicher.
