Mad Hawkes’ Funky New Track Is Sure to Be Your “Fantasy”

Alex KhatchadourianJanuary 30, 2018

I can’t even remember exactly how or when I first met Maddi, the lead singer of Mad Hawkes. Her and I both grew up in the South Bay of Los Angeles, we have tons of mutual friends, and she used to surf with my brother. What I do remember was that I was almost immediately captivated by her bold and unabashed personality. She always effortlessly gets along with anyone she comes in contact with and exudes this slightly aloof and groovy candor that makes you realize she isn’t putting on a front, but rather is quite uncensored.

Maddi’s confidence and authentic flair shine brightly on her new track “Fantasy,” which rings with dancey keys and an undeniably funky edge. “Fantasy” is both inviting—put it on and try to not start dancing, it’s impossible—and confessional, as she sings about her self-destructive, yet relatable behavior. What’s most enticing about the new track is the gusto with which Maddi hits every note; her voice is powerful and raw, and likely to draw comparisons to vocal powerhouses that have come before her.

Keep an eye out for the release of Mad Hawkes’ debut EP coming this Spring 2018.
